on a cool december night in virginia beach, VA, alexander was born to

the rogers family; ronnie, his former air force father; nida, his filipino immigrant mother; and his sister, “sister,” his earliest friend and source of inspiration. alex grew up in a calm coastal childhood — he remembers days at the park where he would race his bike far ahead of the family, wait for them to catch up, then dart off again!

a chance work opportunity sent the family barreling towards the

unknown — a desert country in the middle east called kuwait. alex was introduced to an entirely new world; he traded his suburban elementary school for an international k-12 school; and instead of visits to the park, he was visiting other countries.

his sister was the first musician in the family, learning piano, viola, and clarinet. alex followed her lead by joining band and picking up the saxophone (after the recorder.) what began as imitation quickly became an anchor in a new world of international schools and cultural discovery.

five years later, the family resettled in north florida, where alex finished school.

band classes and extracurriculars grounded him in another new place, and he began teaching himself bass and guitar, alongside the saxophone. though he didn’t yet know it would grow beyond a passion, those years planted the roots.

college brought fewer chances for music, but expanded

his creative toolkit: sewing, video recording and editing, painting, screen printing, and other possibilities he discovered. the friends that he made during this period made college a magical time — the name balex was born from a bit that stuck! after completing his business degree in three years, alex felt ready for another leap…

moving abroad taught young alex to adapt to anything — a gift of versatility, but also the curse of the chameleon; if you’re always shifting to fit the room, who are you when you’re alone in yours?

in 2022, he drove 26 hours to colorado with no plan beyond a new life with his oldest

friend, sol. colorado became the turning point. away from outside expectations, alex confronted cycles of self-doubt and growth — days where alex would retreat, but balex would cut through with sharp truths he couldn’t ignore. it was messy, but transformative.

in february 2023, alex started playing the guitar more consistently, truly learning his way around the instrument — and in august 2024, he produced his first song, and for the first time, all the puzzle pieces fit together!

balex emerged as the expression of alex’s creativity — bold where he is quiet, honest where he hesitates. every song is self-written, recorded, and produced, blending vulnerability with conviction. his music — 14 songs throughout 10 releases (and counting) — filters reality through his pragmatic perspective. he craves freedom through passion and creation, and every release marks another step in that journey.
